Ransomware Groups Are Evolving

In a joint session, Cory Everington, Head of DarkBlue, and Connor Watson, lead analyst at CACI Ltd., presented new research on Funksec Toolbox, a ransomware group operating as a cybercrime-as-a-service provider.

Their talk focused on the group’s distribution of a bundled kit offering tools for DDoS attacks, remote device access, and surveillance capabilities. These findings show how ransomware groups are now selling plug-and-play toolkits that enable other actors to launch attacks with minimal technical skill.

Using intelligence from dark web forums and other closed communities, the team demonstrated how analysts helped deanonymize key group members and traced how Funksec Toolbox is spreading across multiple ecosystems.
