CACI Commemorates Pearl Harbor Day

It's been said that "Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty." Lapses in vigilance, by extension, have a cost in life, liberty, and security.

The truth of this idea has been shown time and again in history. It was true this summer, when off-duty, but still vigilant, American soldiers took down a would-be bomber on a crowded French train. It was true on September 11, 2001, when a failure of vigilance enabled hijackers to bring down the Twin Towers and crash into the Pentagon, while vigilant passengers spared a fourth target by taking their plane out of the sky. And it was true 74 years ago on December 7, 1941, when the Empire of Japan launched a sneak Sunday morning attack on the sleeping U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor.

American inattention leading up to the "date which will live in infamy," as President Franklin Roosevelt put it before Congress, resulted in the highest single-day American death toll since the Battle of Antietam during the Civil War. It launched America head-first into a war that had already engulfed most of Europe and would soon expand to East Asia and the Pacific Ocean. And it began the chain of events that made our country a leader in securing freedom around the world.

Today, the date is little remarked, but America carries on its vigil for liberty and security. CACI is proud to be Ever Vigilant in supporting the men and women of America's Intelligence Community and the Department of Defense as they stand watch over our nation's security. Through dedication, commitment, and innovation, we can help to ensure America is never caught off-guard again.
