CACI Celebrates 239th Birthday of U.S. Marine Corps

In the 239 years since the United States Marine Corps was born on November 10, 1775, the service has developed enduring traditions to mark its birthday. One way Marines annually renew their commitment to the Corps and protecting our nation is the cake-cutting ceremony. This tradition will be carried out at the Commandant's Marine Corps Birthday Ball (held on November 8 this year) and wherever Marines are gathered throughout the world.

The birthday cake is traditionally cut with a Mameluke sword, originally a gift to a Marine from an Ottoman prince as a gesture of respect and praise for his actions in the First Barbary War. The oldest weapon currently in the U.S. military, the sword is earned by all in the Corps upon becoming an officer. The first piece of cake is presented to the guest of honor and the second piece goes to the oldest Marine present. This Marine then passes it to the youngest Marine present, symbolizing the transfer of experience and knowledge, and the Marines' dedication to each other.

CACI has its own enduring tradition of helping to protect our nation and take care of its citizens by supporting all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces with our experience and knowledge. Our support of the Marines includes providing logistics and material readiness at Marine Corps air stations at Cherry Point, North Carolina and Camp Pendleton, California; at locations in Hawaii, Japan, and the Pacific; and to Marines forward-deployed in combat operations in Afghanistan.

Happy birthday to the U.S. Marine Corps - America's "force in readiness" for any and all crises facing our nation.
