Find out more about how CACI MTL can help you!
The DW Tool embeds digital information (images, drawings, text, video, sound, etc.) imperceptibly within a carrier image
DW Applications
- Information Hiding - embedding a secret message or image within a carrier image for secure storage or transmission
- Tamper Detection - embedding fragile watermarks (that break when tampered) in critical digital files (legal documents, evidence, master copies, etc.) that are stored or transmitted
- Image Tagging - embedding descriptive information (e.g., date, time, subject, location, digital signatures) within an image file for efficient and convenient storage or transmission
- File Access Control - embedding access codes in image files to support automated access to multi-level security databases
Example - Information Hiding

Example - File Tamper Detection

CACI MTL's Advanced Digital Watermarking (ADW) Tool is Unique
Our watermarks are invertible (100% removable) making image tagging and file access control practical when the original carrier image must be fully recovered for analysis or processing.
| ADW Features | ADW Benefits |
|---|---|
| Image Tagging - embeds any descriptive information (date, time, subject, location, digital signature, etc.) in an image as an invertible (removable) watermark | Efficient and Convenient - allows image files and their descriptive information to be transmitted and stored together, rather than separately |
| File Access Control - embeds secure access codes in image files as an invertible (removable) watermark | MLS Support - supports automated access to multi-level security (MLS) databases |
| Invertibility of Carrier Image - carrier images tagged with descriptive information can be restored to their exact original state (pixel by pixel) by simply removing the watermark | Unique Functionality - makes image tagging and file access control practical when the carrier image must be fully recovered for analysis or processing. |
| Tamper Detection - divides an image file into blocks and embeds a separate, fragile watermark in each block. Any manipulation of carrier image file will corrupt (break) one or more watermarks. | Ensures File Integrity during electronic transmission and storage Enables All Electronic Storage for archive files (rather than hard copy storage) |
Triple Security - the embedded watermark
|
Secure, Low Profile - minimizes intruder awareness of sensitive information, allowing highly secure storage and transmission of information with minimum chance of detection or compromise |
| Storage - stores the watermark information in the least significant bits of the carrier file | Storage Efficient - requires data storage no larger than the original size of the carrier file |
| Execution Time - a 733 Mhz processor requires only 1-2 sec. to add/remove a watermark to a 315 x 350 pixel carrier image file | Fast - minimal impact on response time and throughput for large databases |
| Payload - the embedded watermarks can be any type of electronic file (image, drawing, video, sound, text, spreadsheet, database, etc.) | Versatile - handles a wide range of applications |
| Carrier Image - any popular format (BMP, JPG, TIF, GIF, etc.) |
ADW H/W-S/W Configuration - PC-based under any Windows O/S, written in C++ and Visual Basic
Original Sponsor - ADW's basic technology was developed by SUNY, Binghamton/MTL Systems and sponsored by AFRL Rome Research Site
