Sametime - First Time Users
Proven Industry Performance.

First time users to Sametime need to insure that their web browser is configured properly. Follow the instructions below to insure your browser is set up properly.

  1. Sametime is supported in Microsoft's Internet Explorer versions 5.5 and above
  2. Sametime uses Java applets for much of its functionality. Click on Verify Java to go to Sun's Java site to verify that you have a current version of Java installed.
  3. If you do not have a current version of Java upgrade to the current version and return to this page (Note: Do not install the Google Toolbar option during the install. This tool bar has a pop-up blocker that can interfere with Sametime). Verify Java
  4. Windows XP Service Pack 2 enabled a new personal firewall system. Click on and run the sametimeregfix script sametimeregfix_v3.vbsto configure the XP SP2 firewall properly for Sametime.
  5. Some popular tool bars for IE (Yahoo and Google) contain pop-up blockers that may interfere with Sametime. Disable these tool bar pop-up blockers prior to Sametime use.

Sametime uses the same username and password combination as webmail.caci.com. To change your password

  1. Open the CACI's Address Book database in Lotus Notes
    CACI address book
  2. Go to your person document in the Address Book and click on your name to open the document
  3. Click on the Edit Person button
    Basics tab
  4. The last field on the Basics tab is Internet password:. This field may be blank or contain a mix of random characters.
  5. If the field is blank then enter the desired password and click on Save and Close. If the field already contains characters (encrypted after the last update) select all of the characters [including ( and )] and delete them. Then enter the desired password and click on Save and Close. Saving and closing the document will automatically encrypt whatever was entered in the Internet password: field.
  6. If you forget your password you will have to reset it since it is encrypted on Save and Close.
  7. It is best to set your password in the copy of the CACI's Address Book on your home mail server. Otherwise the password change will have to replicate around the network to your home mail server before you can use it to authenticate via WebMail, this could take an hour or two.
