Career Development - a lifelong process of becoming aware of, exploring and experiencing factors that influence your personal and job growth and development.
Competency - skills, knowledge or abilities needed to successfully perform within a particular role
Competency Gap - when the employee has less skill, knowledge or ability than required for a role
CVU - the CACI Virtual University, an Internet-based tool that provides resources such as online training courses, Books 24x7 and Skillport.
Exempt - an individual is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act when he or she is classified as an executive, professional, administrative or outside sales employee, and meets the specific criteria for exemption
FLSA - the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) passed in 1938 to establish standards for minimum wage and overtime pay. While not placing a limit on the total hours which may be worked, the act requires that covered employees, unless otherwise exempt, be paid not less than one and one-half times their regular rates of pay for all hours worked in excess of 40 in a workweek.
Grade - the pay level of a job determined by the knowledge, skills, education and experience required to successfully perform its duties and the market rates for similar positions. Every job at CACI has an assigned pay grade.
Job Description - the CACI job title, Band and grade, a short description and the minimum level of education and years of experience required for the specific job
Job Family - a broad occupational group that jobs that require related skills or areas of knowledge
Job Hierarchy - a matrix of related positions generally focused on a specialty within a Job Sub-Family. Each hierarchy matrix shows the most common jobs in a typical career progression. An employee will often move up the job hierarchy as they gain education and experience and demonstrate solid performance in their current position.
Job Sub-Family - a smaller subset of similar skill typed jobs within a job family
Long-Term Career Goal - where you want to be in your career in five to ten years from now
Non-exempt - an individual who is not exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore covered by the provisions of the FLSA. Such an individual is therefore entitled to receive overtime for all hours worked in excess of 40 in a workweek (as well as any state overtime provisions).
SCA - the Service Contract Act (SCA), enacted in 1965, requires specific labor standards for nonexempt service employees on any contract with the U.S. government in excess of $2500 where the principle purpose is to furnish services. All nonexempt positions on the respective contract must be classified under the Department of Labor, SCA Directory of Occupations and are mapped to a job title and position description within the Directory of Occupations based upon job duties and responsibilities. SCA covered employees must be paid in accordance with the local Wage Determination schedule incorporated in the contract.
