Data Warehouse for N.J. Department of Environmental Protection
Faced with the challenge of accomplishing its mission with depleting budget resources the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) launched a data warehousing initiative to enhance the management and decision making related to their finances and personnel.
CACI led the concept requirements, design and implementation phases and facilitated several Joint Application Design sessions to define and prioritize the critical information to be supported by the warehouse.
The database, developed in the Oracle RDBMS on a Sun UNIX server, captures and stores an integrated view of current and historical, financial and personnel information (both summary and selected detail) from existing state-wide and DEP accounting, personnel, payroll and cost accounting systems.
CACI developed the data warehouse using Prism Warehouse Manager to extract, transform and load data into the warehouse and Business Objects to provide end users throughout DEP with online analytical processing (OLAP).
CACI also designed and built a budget planning application using the Hyperion Essbase multidimensional database and Microsoft Excel for the front end.
NJDEP's ability to collate, integrate and report on critical financial data has been enhanced dramatically. What had typically required days or even weeks of data preparation, manual data extraction and customized reporting is now accomplished in a fraction of the time - often reduced to seconds.
