How does FedSelect® work?
It is Microsoft Access database software. It primarily generates reports and serves
as an automated tool to produce comments that the evaluation members/board input in the database.
What software is utilized for the GUI face to
FedSelect?
Microsoft Access includes Visual Basic for Applications. As a result, FedSelect is
written using this language. FedSelect does not use any custom DLLs. All code is stored within the Microsoft Access database using the Microsoft Access libraries.
Is the front-end different for Access vs. SQL
or Oracle?
No. The front-end is still Microsoft Access, while the back-end is SQL or Oracle,
as applicable.
Regarding the licensing fee, the license is
annual, unrestricted to number of users or source selections. I assume that if we want to put the software on a second server for a second location we would need to
pay for a second license. Is this correct?
No. You will be granted a site license, which allows for installation on any machine
within your site.
What ports and protocols does the Oracle
web-based version utilize? Can you give us a brief overview of the web-based security measures incorporated into the software?
Currently there is no true web-based version of FedSelect. The SQL and Oracle
versions use an ODBC interface. All that is required is an ODBC connection to an SQL/Oracle server. The port used by the server is set up by the SQL/Oracle DBA. The
protocol used is TCP/IP.
Can we use our single copy on multiple
computers, such as off-base and on-base sites?
Yes. You will be granted a site license, which allows for installation on any
machine within your site. You may also provide a copy to any of your users for their use or training purposes. We can provide some self paced training exercises
you may find helpful.
Can FedSelect adapt to the Source Selection
criteria?
Yes, it does as the tool is 100% customizable to end user evaluation techniques,
guidelines and terminology.
Once the systems installed can
the same data files be shared?
Yes. You need the correct networking configuration to share the data file.
Does every respective
evaluator need their own computer?
No. You can use the same computer; evaluators have their own respective log in ID
and Password.
Does FedSelect limit the number of
users?
No.
How does FedSelect support the Source
Selection Authority?
FedSelect uses many reports, including real time status and summary data, that
the SSA can take into consideration to come up with the final decision.
What is the Selling Module?
Consensus is one of the strengths and a major selling point. The documentation,
standardization and ease of use are the additional intangibles that make this tool unique.
