Detection of Deception

Description: The Detection of Deception course is an intelligence-based, interactive course designed to help participants identify deception throughout all forms of communication. All behaviors taught in the course are cross cultural and cross gender and therefore, are effective in all parts of the world. Participants will learn to identify verbal and nonverbal behaviors indicative of deception or lack of confidence, thus enabling them to focus on areas of concern.

Audience: As the class is interactive, the class should be no fewer than five people. The class can be given to as many as 100 people but the interactive characteristics are impacted. If possible, the participants should be no more than 30 to allow for maximum interaction. (Note: If the course is given in conjunction with the Strategic Interviewing course, described below, the participants should be limited to no more than 30 people.)

Length: Four hours. The course is generally given in conjunction with the course on Strategic Interviewing. However, the course has been taught on many occasions as a stand alone course. The combined Detection of Deception and Strategic Interviewing courses total eight hours.
Strategic Interviewing

Description: The course on Strategic Interviewing focuses on improving a participant's level of information collection. Specifically, the course identifies the need to focus the interview and understand the importance of question formulation. Normally given in conjunction with the Detection of Deception course, the two courses allow for participants to detect potential deception during interviews or determine the lack of confidence, and in turn structure the interview to maximize the accuracy of information collection.

Audience: As the class is interactive, the class should be no fewer than five people and should not be more than 30 to allow for maximum interaction.

Length: Four hours, but should not be offered as a stand alone course. The course is designed as a follow on to the course on Detection of Deception. When combined, the Strategic Interviewing and the Detection of Deception courses are eight hours.
Elicitation of Information

Description: The Elicitation of Information course is an advanced course further developing a participant's ability to accurately collect information. The course teaches a low key approach to gathering information from an unwilling person in a way that is responsible and effective without damaging the relationship. The non-coercive techniques taught have been effective in eliciting information from terrorists, rapists, embassy walk-ins, smugglers and problem employees, to name but a few. The techniques and have been used successfully in all areas of the world.

Audience: Groups as small as five participants with a maximum capacity of 30. As the course is interactive, more than 30 participants diminishes the ability for significant interaction.

Length: The Elicitation of Information course begins with a hands-on scenario reinforcing the skills learned in the Detection of Deception and Strategic Interviewing courses. That scenario, combined with the Elicitation of Information training session runs a total of eight hours.
Counter-Elicitation

Description: The Counter-Elicitation course is designed to help participants identify behaviors that draw attention to themselves or indicate a lack of confidence in sensitive situations, such as crossing international boundaries or working any venue of undercover operations. Generally taught to an audience of undercover participants throughout various government agencies, the course lays out ways to keep one's self from suspicion or how best to handle the situation after coming under suspicion.

Audience: Groups as small as five to six participants to as large as 25. Participants should have some prior knowledge or involvement in undercover or commercial cover work.

Length: Approximately four hours.
Surveillance Detection

Description: Participants are educated on the three elements of surveillance operations
  1. Surveillance
  2. Surveillance Detection
  3. Counter-Surveillance

Each element is distinct and offers separate principals and deployment strategies. The encompassing goal of the surveillance detection training is to support operational security through a protective strategy to ensure personal safety.

  1. Element One: (Surveillance) introduces participants to basic surveillance techniques. Objectives include area familiarization, target ID and pick-up, teamwork, communications and positioning.
  2. Element Two: (Surveillance Detection) identifies types of surveillance and teaches participants skills such as team formation and exposure limitations, forced predictability, route analysis, selection and design.
  3. Element Three: (Counter-Surveillance) challenges participants by incorporating various counter-surveillance techniques into a plan that will provide adequate controls and safety for the target while exposing possible hostile surveillance. Additionally, the participants will understand how to effectively deploy resources by avoiding detection.

Audience: Class size depends on number of available surveillants.

Length: Class lengths are adaptable depending on needs assessment.
Advanced Money Laundering/Financial Investigations

Audience: Groups as small as five participants to as large as 25.

Length: Entire course is 32 hours, but can be conducted in shorter modules. Each of the 19 classes can be presented individually or grouped, depending on the clients' needs.

Personal Safety and Security Training

Description: The Personal Safety and Security Training courses center on creating awareness of steps required to protect one's self in all situations. The training is not an all inclusive physical self defense class, but a starting point for increased personal safety and security through exposure to protective techniques and awareness.
The Personal Safety and Security Training program is based on a four-pronged theory of Alertness, Prevention, Precaution and Preparation.
Module 1 – Alertness: Increasing participants' awareness of facts about crime and other forms of violence, and understanding the concept of alertness.
