CACI Remembers 9/11

There are some dates that are locked indelibly in every American's mind. December 7, 1941 is one. November 22, 1963 is another... and maybe, January 28, 1986, when the Challenger exploded. People will tell you exactly what they were doing, exactly where they were, when they heard the news.

But I think it's safe to say that for the citizens of today, for all of us at CACI, no date is seared into our collective memories with more power and pain than 9/11. No spelling is needed for the month, and no mention of the year is really necessary. Just three numbers that signify an event that affected us all.

It's hard to believe, but it has been five years since that terrible day in 2001 when our nation was attacked and our world was changed forever. It's ironic that so many people have remarked what a clear and beautiful morning it was back then when the Twin Towers fell, the Pentagon was struck and passengers on Flight 93 rallied to the cry, "Let's roll!" to prevent even more carnage in Washington. Today, we can only remember the anguish and hurt and not the blue and cloudless sky.

So much has happened since then, and the "long war" against the forces of terror that unleashed the trauma of 9/11 continues unabated, fought by the brave men and women who defend our country in battlefields across the globe. And here, in the America that is always near to our hearts, dedicated professionals do their jobs every day - in public, and often in secret - to provide the warfighters with the technology and intelligence they need to successfully take the worldwide battle to the enemy.

At CACI, we also do our part each day. In fact, our motto Ever Vigilant is more meaningful today than it has ever been. It echoes our support for America's defense, intelligence and law enforcement agencies in the war on terrorism... it represents our unwavering commitment to all our clients. Constant vigilance in all things is, after all, a necessary prerequisite for the vital role CACI plays in providing the U.S. government with critically needed IT and network solutions that support America's highest priorities in government transformation, homeland security and national defense.

I would also like to invite you to read an inspiring address by a friend and patriot, Ronald H. Henderson, Jr., Rear Admiral, U.S. Navy. At my request, Admiral Henderson graciously permitted us to post his speech to our CACI websites. I believe it is as relevant today as when he first delivered it to the service men and women onboard the USS John F. Kennedy on the eve of Operation Enduring Freedom, just months after 9/11. It eloquently captures so many of the feelings and raw emotions that the events of that day still bring to mind. I would like to thank him for his service to our country and for these words that, I'm sure, helped motivate his warriors before they went into battle.

On this day, and every day, we ask that you remember the people who were lost on 9/11, that you recall the courage and sacrifice of the first responders and those who fought the attackers... and that you honor the valor and dedication of our current heroes fighting the war on terrorism. And let us take this time to rededicate ourselves to the principles of freedom and justice, and to proudly stand tall for America and all its people.
