Companies trying to make a positive impact on lowering today's rising healthcare costs would do well to follow the example of CACI International Inc. CACI has been named a Fit-Friendly company by the American Heart Association 2009 Start! Fit-Friendly Companies recognition program.
Leading the charge for more fit-friendly policies is CACI President and CEO Paul Cofoni, Chairman of the AHA's Greater Washington Region Start! Heart Walk on November 14, 2009. The goal of the AHA is to raise $2M to fight heart disease, of which Mr. Cofoni himself is a survivor.
Mr. Cofoni has initiated a company-wide program of fitness activities for all employees. These include wellness fairs, healthier food options at CACI locations, discounts to a wide variety of fitness centers, HR wellness assessments, heart health and nutrition "tips of the week" and support for numerous fit-friendly charitable activities. Mr. Cofoni himself has begin conducting regular 30-minute walks with employees throughout CACI offices.
CACI also has been ramping up all year for the November 14 Start! Heart Walk. Activities here have included golf tournament fundraisers as well as a vacation drawing for employees who have made AHA donations. More than 1000 CACI employees will join the 12,000 participants of the November 14 walk, which Mr. Cofoni will lead as Chairman.
"I'm very proud AHA has selected us CACI a Fit-Friendly company," Mr. Cofoni said. "Our fitness initiatives are a great way to show employees how we value them, and our teams have responded with great generosity and creativity in supporting our goals. It's a wonderful message to everyone that staying heart-healthy can truly raise their quality of life. We are confident of meeting our fundraising objectives and defeating heart disease, enhancing lives and improving healthcare costs."
