Once again, we set aside a day to honor all of our veterans - those who are still with us and those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Please visit www.caci.com for our salute to veterans.
America's armed forces safeguard our nation and help protect our allies from those who would destroy freedom. We thank all our servicemen and women today, and take this opportunity to salute our CACI employees who have served or who are currently serving as members of the National Guard or Armed Forces Reserves.
For this Veterans Day we honor these members of Team CACI by sharing their stories with you. We have created a special section to present their thoughts and feelings on what it means to be a veteran now working with CACI.
I am proud that so many of those who served draw such distinct parallels between the values that guided them in the armed forces and those that serve them as CACI employees. One employee observed that our emphasis on integrity and honesty was also instilled in him when he attended West Point. Another remarked, "At CACI, managers expect you to do your best on any type of project or process, so I can transfer much of what learned from the military to my work here." And a third said, "One thing I learned in the military is to always treat people with dignity and respect. This experience has carried over with what I now do at CACI as a recruiter."
At CACI we continue to honor and support all of our veterans through key initiatives and programs. For example, CACI sponsors and provides funds to Comfort for America's Uniformed Services (Cause). We were the presenting sponsor of Cause's 2006 Benefits Gala and are serving in the same capacity for the upcoming 2007 Gala. CACI employees also support Cause by volunteering on site at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC and Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX, handing out books, DVDs and video games to our recovering wounded warriors.
We are also extremely proud of our Deploying Talent - Creating Careers program, which identifies qualified disabled veterans to hire into open CACI positions. This CACI initiative provides meaningful careers for talented veterans with disabilities, while contributing to our mission of supporting vital national priorities. It is our way of doing the right thing for the people who served our country and growing our business with the best talent available.
And as a further example of our support for veterans at several airports you'll find special USO centers sponsored by CACI.
For all the many solutions we provide for our clients, at CACI we never forget that no matter how great our technological advances are, warfighting remains the duty of the brave men and women in uniform. Soldiers like Lieutenant Michael Murphy, who was posthumously awarded the first Medal of Honor for combat in Afghanistan. Lieutenant Murphy's parents, Dan and Maureen Murphy accepted the honor from President Bush in a White House ceremony on Monday, October 22, 2007. The nation's highest military decoration recognizes this heroic SEAL's efforts to summon help for his four-man team when it was besieged by some 30 to 40 enemy fighters.
Lieutenant Murphy was just one individual, but he is a heroic example of all who currently serve and have served our nation. Even as today's warfighters continue to counter global terrorism in Afghanistan, Iraq and in other less known places, we stop to remember those young warriors who flew the English Channel, stormed the beaches in France and fought over isolated Pacific atolls in World War II. We mark the sacrifice and heroism of troops who battled in the frozen wasteland of the Korea's Chosin Reservoir and the naval aviators who dodged SAMs over Vietnam. And we remember with gratitude the brave men and women who are back from doing their duty in places like Kuwait, Fallujah and Baghdad ...and all those who fell fighting for freedom on recent battlefields. We honor and give thanks for their courage, and are proud to support their missions.
