The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts at dusk, Veterans Day 2007.

November 11 was a special night. Not only was it Veterans Day, when Americans honor our military heroes, but the evening saw dignitaries and military heroes come out to support Cause - Comfort for America's Uniformed Services, the nonprofit organization dedicated to helping America's young warfighters recuperate from wounds and injuries suffered in battle zones in Afghanistan and Iraq. Seated at each table during the Gala were some of those young warfighters who were anxious to share their experiences and to express how much the support of the American public means to them.

CACI has been supporting Cause since the organization was founded in 2003 and serving as a presenting sponsor for its annual benefits gala such as the one held on Veterans Day. CACI Executive Chairman Dr. J.P. (Jack) London sits on the Cause Board of Directors and gave a short address at the Veterans Day Gala.

Military luminaries such as Gen. Bob Magnus, Assistant Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps and Gen. George Casey, Chief of Staff USA were on hand to hear the youngest generation of warfighters share their experiences. Distinguished Service Cross recipient 1st Lt. Bryan Jackson, Capt. Kevin Niccum, the head nurse at Walter Reed's amputee ward, and Maj. David Roselle, who returned to Iraq to lead his troops as an amputee, spoke about their experiences and what it means to injured warriors to have visible evidence of support from the American people through organizations like Cause.

Also on hand were Honorary Gala Chair Gen. Barry McCaffrey, USA (Ret.) and Gala patrons former Secretary of State and Joint Chief Chairman Gen. Colin Powell, USA (Ret.); Gen. John P. Abizaid USA (Ret.), former Commander of U.S. Central Command; former Secretary of Veterans Affairs R. James Nicholson; and former Chief of Staff Gen. Eric Shinseki, USA (Ret.).

CACI leadership in attendance included board members Adm. Gregory Johnson, USN (Ret.) and Dr. Warren Phillips. In addition, President and CEO Paul Cofoni, himself a former U.S. Army officer; Bill Fairl, President of U.S. Operations; Randy Fuerst, COO of U.S. Operations; Executive VP and former Vice Adm. Bert Calland, USN (Ret.); and Executive VP Jody Brown. Of note, Jody's Business Communications team provides ongoing support to Cause, especially in events planning and management, communications, creative design and graphic support.

In his address Dr. London stated, "I want to express my deep sense of appreciation for all of those who have gone before us in uniform, to stand up when called, in the defense of our freedoms. And then, too, to our servicemen and women of today, who serve and go forth around the globe, in war zones and hostile places, who stand up today in defense of our freedoms, our way of life and our just cause."

Following the event Dr. London received a note of appreciation from Gen. Magnus thanking him for CACI's leadership in supporting the armed forces and especially the heroic U.S. warfighters on the war front and at home.

Cause co-founder Barbara Lau added, "Again CACI came to our aid by hosting the Gala. It will ensure that we can continue our work of making some small difference, in some small way, every day. CACI has been there since Cause's beginning and I'll be forever grateful."

Barbara Lau, CACI and Cause will continue to work together to find ways to "be here for those who are there for us."
