His is a distinguished Eagle Scout, a lifelong supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and is the immediate past chairman of the National Eagle Scout Association.

In his remarks before the award presentation, Dr. London noted that his son Phillip is an Eagle Scout, as is his son-in-law Jed, who is currently serving in Afghanistan. His wife's nephew, Aaron, also was an Eagle Scout, who died in the line of duty on a bomb sweeping mission in Iraq in 2005.

"The Boy Scouts of America is a pillar in our American society and in our national culture," Dr. London said. "And may it ever be so."
