CACI President and CEO Paul Cofoni Promotes Hiring Veterans at Defense Forum
CACI President and CEO Paul Cofoni made a strong case recently for educating employers on how to hire military veterans as a way to "knock the heck out of the issue of veterans' unemployment." His remarks came as a panelist at the 2011 Defense Forum, held on September 26 and co-sponsored by the U.S. Naval Institute and the Military Officers Association of America. The event was dedicated to combating unemployment among wounded warriors and their families.
CACI has implemented a number of initiatives to hire veterans through programs like its Deploying Talent – Creating Careers, which provides career opportunities for disabled veterans. The company has hired 585 disabled veterans since the program's inception in 2007 and now hires about 100 disabled veterans each year. Some 4 percent of CACI's workforce are disabled vets.
"If the Fortune 1000 can achieve that same level of hiring, with 3 to 4 percent of their employees being disabled veterans, we would knock the heck out of this issue of veterans' unemployment," Cofoni said.
CACI is also sharing its veterans hiring practices with a network of some 60 other companies interested in learning more about hiring vets. "Not every organization is as oriented to hiring vets as CACI is," explained Cofoni, "and part of our commitment is to help spread the word to other companies that these professionals possess the talent, character, and dedication that make them an asset to any workforce."
The panel on which Mr. Cofoni participated was entitled "Deployment to Employment – Are We Really Committed to Hiring Wounded Warriors?" and was moderated by CNN Pentagon Correspondent Barbara Starr. Panelists included spokespersons from Northrop Grumman, the U.S. Department of Labor, the U.S. Department of Commerce, and Wal-Mart. You can also read about it in the U.S. Army Times.
CACI has an exceptional track record of supporting America's servicemen and women, both in and out of uniform. Most recently, the company was voted among the Best Recruiters of 2011 by security-cleared job seekers, and was honored by the U.S. Navy Reserve as a top employer of National Guard and Navy Reserve Members. If you are a military veteran, Guard member, or Reservist, CACI invites you to explore our job opportunities as you take the next step in your career.
