CACI Honors the Stars and Stripes

Public domain

The legendary “Betsy Ross” flag created June 14, 1777 and first flown by General George Washington.

Whether you know it as the “Stars and Stripes,” “Old Glory,” or the “Star-Spangled Banner,” the flag of the United States is a powerful symbol of American courage and determination, in the face of any and all odds.

With our very first flag portraying a union of 13 stars “representing a new constellation,” the flag has bonded us as a nation since it was established by the Second Continental Congress on June 14, 1777. Just days later, it was raised by General George Washington and his Continental Army at their encampment in New Jersey, as they successfully outmaneuvered and kept a much larger British force at bay.

In one of the most famous images of our times, after the Pentagon was struck on 9/11, American soldiers and local firefighters unveiled and saluted the stars and stripes.

Wherever the flag is unfurled, the brave men and women who serve under its colors look to it as both a symbol of strength and as a reminder of home and family. The flag unites all Americans, representing our heritage and our freedom – and our dedication to preserving these for generations to come.

On Flag Day, CACI encourages every American to display the Stars and Stripes. Long may she wave!
