Our Independence Day marks the birth of a great nation. It honors a declaration of freedom and independence, made against tremendous odds, and the struggle that followed to see it achieved. In celebrating the principles of liberty and justice that forged our country the Fourth of July is perhaps the most uniquely American of all our holidays.

Since July 4, 1776 America has continued to defend these principles wherever they are challenged, here or abroad, regardless of the odds. America's courageous men and women have always been on the side of liberty, seldom shirking from a nation's quest for independence.

People from around the globe continue to draw inspiration from our Declaration of Independence. It is a truly revolutionary document, placing the greatest power not with government but with those being governed. The stamp of a truly free society... "Of the People, by the People, for the People."

As we pause to celebrate our nation's birthday, let us also honor America's patriots, past and present, and take great pride in the work we do to safeguard our liberty and freedom's cause.
