CACI Rejects Baseless Amendment to Iraq Detainee Lawsuit
Spurious Allegations Remain Unfounded in Rehash of Maliciously False Suit
Arlington, VA, December 20, 2007 - CACI International Inc (NYSE:CAI) announced today that it is responding vigorously to amendments to a malicious and unfounded lawsuit filed more than three and one-half years ago by the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR). CACI totally rejects and denies all of the allegations and claims in this new legal filing. In the original lawsuit, CCR attempted to portray CACI as engaged in a conspiracy to abuse detainees at Abu Ghraib prison in 2004. In the amended lawsuit filed on December 17, CCR adds even more spurious claims against the company, accompanied by a slanderous press release on December 18 that confuses and obfuscates the facts. In their misleading news release, plaintiffs' counsels have erroneously claimed that scores of Iraqis have suddenly emerged to sue CACI. The plaintiffs' news release fails to disclose that their amended complaint, including the addition of named plaintiffs, was required because the Court had denied their request to have the lawsuit proceed as a class action, and because plaintiffs abandoned their original, and outrageous, conspiracy allegations.
Along with its calculating team of lawyers, CCR is attempting to bring back into the spotlight a frivolous lawsuit against CACI International in order to further its own political agenda. Plaintiff's counsel continues to escalate their rhetoric without any changes in the allegations of misconduct.
From day one, CACI has rejected the outrageous allegations of this lawsuit and will continue to do so. CACI has unequivocally renounced any abuse of detainees in Iraq and has cooperated fully in all government inquiries relating to detainee abuse. CACI does not condone or tolerate illegal or inappropriate behavior by any employee when engaged in CACI business and has repeatedly stated it would take swift action if the evidence demonstrates culpable wrongdoing by any of its employees. However, CACI also emphasizes its strong commitment to the fundamental American principle that people are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The accusations in the self-proclaimed "victims" ever-changing lawsuit are a rehash of their original baseless submissions. The attempt by plaintiffs' counsel to portray CACI as engaged in a conspiracy to abuse detainees is unmitigated fiction perpetrated by plaintiffs' counsel as part of their "big lie" propaganda campaign to keep their lawsuit afloat and their personal political agendas in the public light. The plaintiffs are attempting to prosecute the same restated, reformulated and related claims that were frivolous when first filed and which remain to this day frivolous and maliciously false.
Three and one-half years after filing their original complaint, not one of the more than the 200 plaintiffs has connected their generic allegations of abuse to any CACI personnel. No CACI employee or former employee has been charged with any misconduct in connection with CACI's interrogation work in Iraq. No CACI employee appears in any of the infamous abuse photographs from Abu Ghraib. Indeed, with respect to the one plaintiff known to have filed an administrative claim with the Defense Department, United States government officials concluded that the plaintiff's claim of abuse was not only unsubstantiated, but false in that many of his allegations were objectively refutable.
